Abstract Risk communication is a form of technical and scientific communication aimed at helping persons to accept, avoid or minimize risks to health, safety and the environment. This issue of the journal attempts to trace a path to understanding how communication affects safety. It analyzes the dynamics of communication between the various stakeholders in the occupational safety and health system, presents the views of opinion makers and provides an overview of the information currently being aired in Europe and worldwide.
