Abstract The consumption of alcohol, cannabis and other psychoactive substances can endanger workers' safety and health, and in particular cause occupational accidents. This article addresses the issues of prevention and management of substance abuse at enterprise level. Prevention involves a collective approach based on a protocol accepted by all parties, specifying the modes of intervention, screening, surveillance, management and decisions to withdraw or maintain substance-dependent workers at their jobs.
