Title Tower crane safety in the construction industry: A Hong Kong study
Bibliographic information Feb. 2009, Vol.49, No.2, p.208-215. Illus. 25 ref.
Abstract Tower cranes are extensively used for lifting materials in construction sites. Most construction sites are very confined and close to public. Tower crane accidents not only cause risk to workers at construction sites, but also to pedestrians. This study investigated tower crane safety with respect to regulations and guidelines concerning tower cranes in the Hong Kong construction sector. Data were collected by means of questionnaires and structured interviews. Inadequate training and fatigue were found to be the main reasons of unsafe practices. Recommendations for improving safety performance in tower crane operations are proposed.
