Abstract Compared to 2008, the number of occupational accidents in France in 2009 decreased by 7.5%, with a corresponding decrease in the frequency index from 24.7 to 23.4 accidents per 1000 employees. While fatal occupational accidents had already seen a sharp decrease of 8.5% in 2008, they decreased by a further 5.4% in 2009. Occupational diseases increased by 8.7%, reaching 49,341 recorded cases in 2009. Commuting accidents involving a loss of work time increased by 6.8%, while commuting accident fatalities declined by 8.0%. This article presents these statistics by main sector of activity.
