Abstract Hong Kong is frequently hit by tropical cyclones or typhoons during the summer months. Taking into account the interests of employers, employees and the wider community, this booklet aims to provide guidance in time of typhoons. Contents: introduction; work arrangements; rules regarding report for duty, release from work and resumption of work; payment of wages and allowances; provisions under the employment ordinance, the safety and health ordinance and the employees' compensation ordinance. Appendices include: work arrangements in times of typhoons and rainstorms; work arrangements of outdoor work in exposed areas in times of inclement weather; weather warnings.
