Title Selected questions on biomechanical exposures for surveillance of upper-limb work-related musculoskeletal disorders
Bibliographic information Oct. 2007, Vol.81, No.1, p.1-8. Illus. 30 ref.
Abstract Questionnaires for assessment of biomechanical exposure are frequently used in surveillance programmes, though few studies have evaluated which key questions are needed. The objective of this study was to reduce the number of variables on a surveillance questionnaire by identifying which variables best summarized biomechanical exposure. Data on 2685 subjects for which 37 variables assessing biomechanical exposures were available for the years 2002 to 2003 from the French experimental network of Upper-limb work-related musculoskeletal disorders were used and subjected to Principal Component Analysis (PCA). It was concluded that 26 of the original 37 variables were sufficient to characterize major biomechanical constraints.
