Title Making the link between health and productivity at the workplace - A global perspective
Bibliographic information May 2010, Vol.48, No.3, p.251-255. Illus. 23 ref.
Abstract This article discusses the relationship between health and productivity at the workplace by reviewing the current status of the fields of workplace health promotion and health management. The prevailing chronic disease trends coupled with economic pressures have proven to be significant challenges for employers and employees alike. While an overall progress in workplace health promotion can be observed, the number of companies which take a proactive and integrated approach to workplace health remains small. Workplace health promotion programmes in the United States typically focus on the individual health risks of employees while their European counterparts target physical and, more recently, psychosocial hazards. A number of specific tools and programmes for integrated health management are described, including self-report instruments to measure presenteeism.
