Abstract According to the findings of the SUMER survey of 2003, non-medical health care occupations (mainly nurses and assistant nurses), consisting mostly of women, are specifically characterized by the cumulative constraints of work schedules and organizational factors. They are exposed to the risks of verbal and physical violence, as well as to carcinogenic chemicals and radiation. Biological hazards resulting from contact with patients and accidental exposure to blood are also among the risks which are characteristic of these occupations.
