Abstract This study looked at the perceptions of and attitudes to noise exposure reduction at several large construction sites in Australia. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 98 workers to identify what is currently being done and what could be improved. Although workers generally demonstrated good awareness of OHS and noise-related issues, knowledge of the problem does not necessarily translate into effective behaviour change. Workers' behaviour was explored with respect to the Health Belief Model, and suggestions are made on how to build on an existing safety culture to further reduce noise exposure.
