Title Depressed and absent from work: Predicting prolonged depressive symptomatology among employees
Bibliographic information 2008, Vol.58, No.4, p.295-301. 24 ref.
Abstract The objective of this study was to identify factors which may help to reduce depressive symptoms among employees with mental health problems. Employees sick listed for 12-20 weeks due to mental health problems were followed for one year. After a screening questionnaire, standardized interviews were conducted by telephone, assessing individuals' mental health, work characteristics and possible actions undertaken by employers. A total of 555 employees commenced the study and 436 participated in the second interview. Individuals with low education and sole breadwinners showed a less favourable course of depressive symptoms, while work resumption and changes in the employee's tasks promoted a more favourable course.
