Title The precautionary principle: In action for public health
Bibliographic information Sep. 2007, Vol.64, No.9, p.569-574. 48 ref.
Abstract The precautionary principle states that the lack of scientific certainty must not be viewed as a reason to ignore or postpone preventive or remedial action when there are other good reasons to do so. The principle has its roots in environmental protection in the 1970s. This editorial argues in favour of its adoption in public heath. Four readers comment on this editorial, raising some of the difficulties faced in precisely defining the scope and limits of the principle.
