Title Exposure to metalworking fluids and respiratory and dermatological complaints in a secondary aluminium plant
Bibliographic information July 2008, Vol.81, No.7, p.845-853. Illus. 35 ref.
Abstract In this study, the exposure to metalworking fluids (MWFs) was evaluated in 31 workers of three departments (extrusion, hot and cold rolling mill) in a secondary aluminium plant in Belgium. Evaluations also included urinary 1-hydroxypyrene and self-assessments of respiratory and dermatological complaints by means of questionnaires. Atmospheric levels of MWFs and biodegradation products were low in all work environments. 1-Hydroxypyrene levels were all around the detection limit of 0.2µg/L. The scores for skin and respiratory symptoms were higher in the hot and cold rolling mill departments than in the extrusion department. Other findings are discussed.
