Abstract A confined space is one that is large enough to enter and perform assigned work in. It has limited or restricted ways to enter or exit the space and was not designed to be occupied continuously by a worker. Atmospheric testing in confined spaces is required for evaluating the hazards of the confined space and verifying that acceptable conditions exist for entry into that space. This information sheet summarizes the procedures required for atmospheric testing in confined spaces as required according to United States legislation.
