Abstract The garment sector is the Cambodian main export industry and employs 300,000 mostly female workers. The "Better Factories Cambodia" Programme was established in 2001 to monitor and report on working conditions in over 200 Cambodian garment factories according to compliance with national laws and international standards. The project also helps factories to improve working conditions and productivity, and works with the Government and international buyers to ensure a rigorous, transparent and continuous cycle of improvement. This report summarizes information about working conditions and labour standards, compliance issues, and progress achieved in a number of indicators since the launch of the programme
