Abstract Noise is a hazard to health of operators. French regulations require that noise be limited to protect both the environment and exposed workers. This article gives an overview of the main aspects of the prevention of noise-related hazards on construction sites. Topics addressed: building design; foundation and primary structure construction; preparation of the construction to avoid noisy work later (making provision for secondary equipment when laying concrete reinforcement); earthmoving equipment; communications on the construction site; hearing protection equipment; noise scale.
