Title Violence management training: The development of effective trainers in the delivery of violence management training in healthcare settings

Abstract The objectives of this research project was to identify the competencies that make for an effective violence management trainer and to review practices and procedures associated with the selection, development and management of trainers. It was carried out by means of literature surveys, together with interviews and focus groups involving trainers and managers of a number of healthcare units in the United Kingdom. Findings are discussed. Recommendations are grouped under the following headings: regulation of violence management training; trainer competencies; role of violence management trainer; trainer selection; trainer support and development; organizational capability in tackling work-related violence; further research.
