Abstract A safe work model based on three conditions is presented. To understand the model, one needs to start from the principle that occupational safety involves a continuous cycle of three phases: safety evaluation or diagnosis (problems, strong points); treatment or intervention (methods to be applied, measures to be implemented); evaluation of results (changes having occurred, modifications to be implemented). Within this context, three conditions need to be filled to ensure that workers carry out their work safely: their aptitude for the work; their understanding of the work; their willingness to do the work.
