Abstract As a consequence of the new forms of work organization which emerged during the 1980s, work in isolation is subject to new developments. This article presents the findings of a study conducted in France by the INRS on the implementation of an efficient communication and alarm system for work in isolation. Contents: definition of work in isolation; accidents; hazard evaluation; means of communication; detection systems; alarm systems.

Descriptors (secondary) occupational accidents; radio communications; description of equipment; public OSH institutions; new technologies; selection of equipment; mobile telephony; computerized data bases; France
