Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the biological hazards faced by the staff of a Spanish hospital and to recommend appropriate preventive measures. The biological hazards were evaluated using the Biogaval methodology. Work involved identifying the microorganisms most likely to be present, and evaluating their health hazards and transmission mechanisms, the percentage of the target populations that are vaccinated and the effectiveness of hygiene measures. High levels of airborne microbial transmission were observed, with the nursing staff of emergency units being particularly at risk.
