Abstract This report presents the findings of cross-sectional epidemiological study based on a survey of a sample of 2300 employed persons and 300 unemployed persons or persons seeking their first job. Its objectives were to shed light on the prevalence the drug consumption (including alcohol and tobacco) in Spain, and to compare the findings with those of a similar survey conducted ten years earlier. A first section provides data on the consumption by substances according to various factors (employment status, age, sex, region of residence, social class and religious beliefs). The second section discusses the motivations, attitudes and consequences of drug consumption. Finally, several preventive measures aimed at employers are proposed.
