Abstract Newsletter of the French National Occupational Safety and Health Institute (INRS) comprising a series of interviews and articles which examine the implications of the new European policy with respect to evaluating the hazards related to chemicals (White Paper on the introduction of the REACH system). Topics addressed: role of the French labour ministry in applying the provisions of the White Paper; current and future role of the INRS with respect to the evaluation of chemicals; contribution of the European Commission White Paper towards the prevention of hazards related to chemicals within the enterprise; economic and social consequences of adopting the White Paper recommendations; analysis of the White Paper from the standpoint of occupational safety and health requirements.
