Abstract During the design of an underground ventilation network, several parameters need to be estimated, the most important being the friction factor K, namely the quantification of the resistance of the walls of underground openings to the passage of air. In this project, a factor K database was developed and appended to mining ventilation software. The database allows for the rapid estimation of friction factors, thus facilitating ventilation network simulation. Fans or regulators can also be chosen more easily.
