Abstract Agricultural workers aged 55 years and older are at a higher risk of fatal occupational injury than their younger counterparts. The leading causes of fatalities are transportation accidents, contact with objects or equipment and assaults, including assaults by animals. This article presents the salient occupational injury statistics concerning older farm workers in the USA and discusses some of the key safety issues concerning this population.
