Title Accident patterns and prevention measures for fatal occupational falls in the construction industry
Bibliographic information July 2005, Vol.36, No.4, p.391-400. 33 ref.
Abstract Data concerning 621 fatal falls in the construction industry in Taiwan were analysed with respect to individual variables (age, gender, experience and the use of personal protective equipment), the fall site, company size and cause of the fall. Primary and secondary prevention measures to prevent falls or to mitigate the consequences of falls are suggested for each type of accident. Primary prevention measures include fixed barriers, such as handrails, guardrails, surface opening protections and crawling boards, and use of strong roofing materials. Secondary protection measures include travel restraint systems (safety belts), fall arrest systems (safety harnesses), and fall containment systems (safety nets).
