Abstract This article reviews occupational voice disorders. It describes some of the causes of vocal strain, throat irritation, hoarseness and loss of voice including physical factors (background noise, smoke, low humidity, postural strain), workload and psychological factors (stress, interpersonal conflict). It identifies persons at risk, and examines the management of occupational voice hazards and economic and legal aspects.
