Abstract This case study describes the development and operation of the GIPA (Greater involvement of people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS) Workplace Model, developed with the support of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Its aim was to place trained fieldworkers, living openly with HIV/AIDS, in selected partner organizations to set up or renew workplace policies and programmes in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The experiences of 11 fieldworkers are described and elements of best practice are identified.
