Abstract |
This code sets out requirements for ship owners and managers or anyone responsible for the operation of a ship to develop, implement and maintain a safety management system based on the following provisions: a safety and environmental protection policy; procedures to ensure the safe operation of ships and protection of the environment in compliance with relevant legislation; defined levels of authority and lines of communication among shore and shipboard personnel; procedures for the reporting of accidents and no-compliance with the code; emergency preparedness; and procedures for internal audits and management reviews. Certification and verification requirements are also set out. |
