Title Viral hepatitis among health care workers: Time trends
Original title Hepatitis víricas en personal sanitario: Evolución temporal [in Spanish]
Bibliographic information Mar. 2004, Vol.L, No.194, p.11-21. Illus. 47 ref.
Abstract The objective of this study was to examine the trends in the incidence of viral hepatitis cases among workers of a Spanish hospital between 1979 and 2003. 253 cases of occupational disease caused by a biological agent were recorded during this period, including 89 cases of hepatitis (35.2%). The distribution of hepatitis cases by category of staff shows that qualified nurses and physicians are the most affected. The incidences of all types of hepatitis and hepatitis B show a decreasing trend during the study period, with very low rates since 1985 when hepatitis B vaccination was first introduced. A significant decrease was also observed for hepatitis C or non-A, non-B (NANB) hepatitis.
