Abstract This article summarizes the report of a study carried out by the Belgian union of transport workers on the causes of stress in the various sub-sectors of road transport. Around 1300 persons working in 50 enterprises were surveyed and questioned on work organization, personnel policies, supervision, social aspects, working conditions during driving, personal aspects and causes of stress. A short description of the problems identified and the corresponding action plans is presented.
