Abstract The reactive airways dysfunction syndrome (RADS) is characterized by the incidence of persistent asthma among subjects previously without symptoms, following an exposure to respiratory irritants lasting several minutes to several hours. Respiratory disorders persist for at least three months, but generally last several years. Contents of this article on RADS: definition; physiopathology; frequencies of acute exposure that give rise to RADS; substances that may give rise to RADS; description of a clinical case; prognosis; occupational health and insurance aspects.
