Abstract Violence and stress at work are a source of occupational risk in the transport sector that has attracted increasing attention over recent years. This working paper focuses mainly on public transport (railways and rural and urban transport systems), road freight transport and the taxi industry as well as civil aviation. Contents: violence and stress in the services sectors; character and causes of violence and stress at work in the transport sector; scope of violence and stress in the sector; information collection and reporting on violence and stress; prevention, reduction, management and coping strategies.
