Abstract An earlier study on musculoskeletal diseases (MSDs) and just-in-time working practices at a boot manufacturing plant had resulted in a series of recommendations for improving working conditions. The purpose of the present study was to review the implementation process for the 78 ergonomic and work organization changes that were selected. Data were collected by means of questionnaires sent out periodically. These data enabled the factors favouring the implementation or otherwise of the recommendations to be identified, and allowed the research team to focus its practical support efforts. This participatory ergonomic intervention resulted in a decrease in MSD symptoms and in improvements in working conditions.
