Abstract Hazard identification is fundamental to the safe design and operation of any system, be it a process plant or any other facility. Aimed to assist safety specialists and managers, this guide presents the most commonly used techniques, and then directs the reader to publications where further guidance may be found. The selection is based on an analysis of the more common techniques used by European Process Safety Centre members, namely fault tree analysis, event tree analysis, and failure modes and effects analysis.
