Abstract Beryllium is used in many industrial applications; it is toxic, even at low concentrations. This safety information sheet summarizes the current state of knowledge with respect to prevention measures to be adopted when working in the presence of beryllium, as well as current legislation. Contents: uses (alloys, recovery of precious metals, aerospace, nuclear reactors, weaponry, scientific instruments); health hazards (berylliosis, skin and renal symptoms); exposure evaluation; biological monitoring; hazard management.
