Abstract Recent data indicate that hospital workers are at increased risk for experiencing violence in the workplace. This booklet aimed at increasing worker and employer awareness of the risk factors for violence in hospitals and at providing strategies for reducing exposure to these factors. Topics covered: types of workplace violence; workers at risk; areas where violence may occur; effects of violence (injury, disability, psychological trauma, death); risk factors; prevention strategies for employers; dealing with the consequences of violence; safety tips for hospital workers; case reports of effective strategies.
