Abstract The Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) is an extreme allergic reaction to a variety of substances, including certain chemicals and pharmaceuticals. The objective of this booklet is to offer advice to employers and workers on preventing risks of SJS and other illnesses caused by exposure to chemicals. Contents: introduction and description of SJS; causes of SJS; workplace hazards and SJS; symptoms; persons at risk; hazard evaluation; preventive measures, including limitation of exposure; legal aspects; points to remember about types of chemicals found in the workplace.
