Abstract Many dock workers are injured or killed at work each year in the United Kingdom. This guidance is aimed at all persons involved in dock operations or who supply labour for dock work. It explains the specific safety and health duties and shows how cooperation, coordination and the control of contractors can help managing safety successfully. Topics covered: employers' responsibilities towards their own employees, temporary workers, workers from a labour supplier and with respect to training; information on the risks; cooperation and coordination of safety management with other employers; controlling contractors; risk assessment; particular responsibilities; key questions to all employers.
