Abstract The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1999 (COSHH, see CIS 00-620) requires employers to carry out an assessment of the risks to workers' health resulting from exposures to hazardous substances. This leaflet summarizes the duties of employers under COSHH applicable to respiratory sensitizers. Contents: description of respirators sensitizers; symptoms of respiratory sensitization; effects of continued exposure; legal aspects; hazard evaluation; preventing or controlling exposure; health surveillance; what to do with respect to sensitized employees; what employees need to know.
