Abstract This report identifies the main changes made to the 2001 edition of the UN regulations concerning the international carriage of dangerous goods by rail (RID) that will be reflected in the 2003 edition of RID and provides the background to these changes. It discusses the likely effects on industry, and examines the changes in the light of requirements in Railway Group Standards and derogations permitted under the RID framework directive where applicable.
