Abstract This approved guide presents the general principles of classification and labelling as required by the Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging) Regulations 2002 (CHIP3). It closely follows the European Commission's "Labelling Guide", namely Annex VI to Directive 67/548/EEC and its adaptations to technical progress (see CIS 01-962 for the most recent adaptation). It is addressed at manufacturers, importers and other suppliers who have responsibilities for the classification and labelling of dangerous substances and preparations. Contents: introduction and scope; classification on the basis of physical and chemical properties; classification on the basis of health effects.
