    The ProGRESS Project is a joint initiative of the Government of Bangladesh and the International Labour Organization (ILO), funded by the Government of Canada.

  1. Building Youth Capacity and Network in Asia Pacific

    1 April 2022 - 31 March 2024

    The ILO's technical cooperation project to empower 50,000 youth and vulnerable people using sustainable, scalable and impactful training tools in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Philippines, Thailand and Timor-Leste.

  2. ILO in Cox's Bazar

    1 March 2022 - 31 March 2025

    ILO, UNHCR and BRAC jointly designed this project focusing on the employability and economic resilience of the host communities in Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh.

2021

  1. Implementation of a Pilot of an Employment Injury Scheme (EIS) in Bangladesh

    1 August 2021 - 30 September 2023

    This initiative will support the Government of Bangladesh, and the social partners to introduce a pilot of an Employment Injury Scheme (EIS) in the Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sector, and gradually operationalize the EIS system, as the first step towards a sustainable contributory social insurance system in the country.

  1. Trade for Decent Work Project

    1 January 2019 - 31 December 2027

    The project aims at improving the application of the ILO fundamental Conventions in EU trading partner countries through improved labour relations and working conditions.

  2. Asia Regional Child Labour Programme (ARC)

    2 May 2019 - 30 September 2023

    The Asia Regional Child Labour Programme (ARC) aims to reduce vulnerability to child labour and enhance protection of children from exploitation in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Myanmar and Pakistan to contribute to the eradication of child labour, particularly its worst forms.

    Improving Working Conditions in the Ready-Made Garment Sector in Bangladesh - Phase II

    1 July 2017 - 30 June 2023

    Improving Working Conditions in the Ready-Made Garment Sector Programme In Bangladesh is an initiative of the Government of Bangladesh, implemented by International Labour Organization and funded by Canada, the Netherlands and the UK. The three-and-a-half year initiative focuses on improving RMG factory building safety, workers’ rights and overall working conditions in Bangladesh.

  2. Skills 21 – Empowering citizens for inclusive and sustainable growth

    1 January 2017 - 30 June 2023

    Skills 21 project is a joint initiative of the Government of Bangladesh and the International Labour Organization (ILO), funded by the European Union. The project seeks to increase productivity and employment opportunities for young people through support for the development of an inclusive technical and vocational training system responding to the needs of the labour market.

2016

  1. Application of Migration Policy for Decent Work for Migrant Workers

    1 January 2016 - 31 December 2021

    The project will help the Government of Bangladesh to operationalize policy and legal measures developed by earlier ILO initiatives, including, the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Policy 2016 and the Overseas Employment and Migrants Act 2013.

  1. Promoting Social Dialogue and Harmonious Industrial Relations in Bangladesh Ready-Made Garment Industry

    29 October 2015 - 31 December 2022

    The initiative will work to enhance workplace rights and industrial relations in the Bangladesh Ready-Made Garment Sector primarily through improved dialogue between employers and workers, particularly at workplace level.

  2. Developing a National Employment Injury Insurance (EII) Scheme for the Bangladesh Ready-Made Garment Sector

    5 October 2015 - 31 December 2020

    This initiative supports the political willingness of the Bangladesh government and social partners to adopt a national employment injury insurance scheme and to set up the public institution required for its implementation.

  3. Improving Labour Law Compliance and Building Sound Labour Practices in the Export Oriented Shrimp Sector in Bangladesh

    1 August 2013 - 31 December 2015

    The Shrimp project is funded by the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) and aims to promote better labour law compliance with international labour standards, particularly fundamental principles and rights at work in the export-oriented shrimp sector.

  4. Country Level Engagement and Assistance to Reduce Child Labour (CLEAR Project) - ILO IPEC/FPRW

    21 June 2015 - 20 April 2017

    To improve the capacity of 10 target countries to reduce child labour, including its worst forms. The Bangladesh component of the project is based on the National Child labour Elimination Policy and the National Plan of Action (NPA). Project components are designed to make direct contribution to the implementation of the NPA.

2014

  1. RMG Centre of Excellence (COE) Project

    1 January 2014 - 30 June 2017

    The RMG Center of Excellence (COE) Project is designed to establish in Bangladesh a replicable model of an industry-driven training and support services Centre of Excellence (COE) for the Ready Made Garment sector. This will implement certified training within the national skills development policy (NSDP) of Bangladesh.

  2. Better Work Bangladesh Programme (BWB)

    23 April 2014 - 30 June 2017

    The Better Work Bangladesh programme (BWB) is a partnership between the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), aims to contribute to improving the life of the workers, their families and their communities, and increase the competitiveness of the ready-made garment sector in Bangladesh.

  1. Improving Fire and General Building Safety

    8 November 2013 - 31 January 2017

    The Improving Fire and General Building Safety in Bangladesh project aims to improve fire and building safety in the Ready Made Garment sector by providing support to the Government of Bangladesh to enhance capacity of the enforcing and implementing agencies.

  2. Improving Working Conditions in the Ready-Made Garment Sector in Bangladesh (RMG Programme) - Phase I

    22 October 2013 - 30 June 2017

  3. Trade for Decent Work

    1 January 2019 - 31 December 2023

    Rights at work: Support the Implementation of the Sustainability Compact. A Sustainability Compact to promote continuous improvements in labour rights and factory safety in the Ready Made Garment and Knitwear Industry in Bangladesh was launched on 8 July 2013.

  4. Promoting Workers' Rights and Labour Relations in Export Oriented Industries in Bangladesh (FRLR)

    1 June 2013 - 31 December 2015

    The FRLR project aims to promote better compliance with the international labour standards, particularly fundamental principles and rights at work in the ready-made garments, shrimp processing, and shoe and leather sectors. The project has been built on recently intensified works by ILO in Bangladesh in areas of: promotion of labour rights; supporting dialogue between employers, workers and the government; labour compliance; freedom of association, and collective bargaining.

  5. Bangladesh Skills for Employment and Productivity (B-SEP)

    27 March 2013 - 30 June 2019

    The Bangladesh Skills for Employment and Productivity (B-SEP) Project is an initiative of the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) funded by the Government of Canada and executed by the International Labor Organization with support from the GoB. The project aims to accelerate the current efforts being undertaken by other organizations, donors and government to make skills in Bangladesh nationally recognized, accessible to all, higher quality and directly linked to jobs.
