The ILO Brief - National Tripartite Plan of Action (NTPA) on Fire Safety and Structural Integrity

In response to major industrial accidents in Bangladesh’s RMG sector in 2012 and 2013, important decent work safety initiatives were facilitated through the National Tripartite Plan of Action on Fire Safety and Structural Integrity (NTPA). The brief reviews 25 activities committed to in the plan, identifies areas for further intervention and puts forward a set of recommendations.

in four broad areas, including: a) legislation and policy b) administration c) industrial safety and, d) worker rehabilitation and injury insurance. Based on the review and analyses, a revised Plan of Action (PoA) on industrial safety in Bangladesh was put forward. With the changing environment and the need for a multi-sectoral approach, the efforts on industrial safety should be refocused taking the good practices of RMG-facing initiatives into cognizance. In consultation with stakeholders, the proposed PoA prioritizes 76 activities to that need implementing going forward.
