Study Tour in Scandinavia

How do you develop effective mechanisms of consultation and dialogue between governments and indigenous and tribal peoples and which role can ILO Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Convention, 1989 (No.169) play in this regard? That is one of the questions that a delegation with government and indigenous and tribal peoples’ representatives from Bangladesh tried to explore during a trip to the three Scandinavian countries of Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

Letter of Agreement between IOM and ILO for the Project “Promoting Decent Work through Improved Migration Policy and its Application in Bangladesh”

The IOM and ILO signed a letter of agreement to strengthen the implementation of the Project “Promoting Decent Work through Improved Migration Policy and its Application in Bangladesh” and specifically to support Improved Migration Management and Services.

Green Jobs in Asia Regional Conference
29 - 31 August 2012
On 29-31 August 2012, a tripartite regional workshop will discuss the Green Jobs in Asia project to highlight successful approaches, areas of improvement and the way forward. Representatives from GJA will include Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, the Philippines and Sri Lanka. They will be joined by additional countries with Green Jobs experience: China, Fiji, India and Thailand.

Youth voices from Asia and the Pacific

Between December 2011 and May 2012, the ILO consulted young people from around the globe to gather their inputs to an International Youth Forum in Geneva, ahead of the 101st International Labour Conference for which a key focus is youth employment. As part of this global process, 13 national youth employment consultation events took place in Asia and the Pacific. This report summarises the key messages brought by young people and policy-makers.

National Conference on Youth Employment in Bangladesh

A National Conference on Youth Employment in Bangladesh was held on 08 April 2012 at Hotel Ruposi Bangla in Dhaka. The conference, jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and ILO, provided a very good platform for stakeholders to highlight the importance of youth employment issues and priorities in Bangladesh and way forward.

Breaking the barriers

Many people with disabilities face major barriers to social inclusion in their communities. Many are not able to access mainstream training or decent education and this leads to significantly decreased employment opportunities. This publication looks at how the ILO is equipping women with disabilities with the technical skills to work in the rapidly expanding ready made garments industry in Bangladesh.
