Press Conference on the World Day Against Child Labour 2010

A press conference was organised on 11 June at the National Press Club to brief the media on the WDACL 2010, child labour situation in the country, efforts made by the public and social and strategic partners to address child labour and way forward. A total of 36 Journalists from all major print and electronic media attended the press conference.

A press conference was organised on 11 June at the National Press Club to brief the media on the WDACL 2010, child labour situation in the country, efforts made by the public and social and strategic partners to address child labour and way forward. A total of 36 Journalists from all major print and electronic media attended the press conference.

Mr. Arun Kanti Aich, Joint Secretary (Labour) and Head of Child Labour Unit of the Ministry of Labour and Employment delivered the joint press briefing. The ILO Director a.i, the Chief Technical Adviser of the UIE Project, Child Protection Specialist of UNICEF, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education were present on behalf of the organisers and responded to the questions asked by the journalists. Most of the questions were related with the situation of child labour, as the country does not have any recent data on child labour (Last child labour survey was conducted in 2003), list of hazardous activities for child labourers, plans and programmes the Government to eliminate the worst forms of child labour by 2016 etc.

At the end of the press conference a joint (ILO, UNICEF and Ministry of Women and Children Affairs) communication campaign against child labour was launched (see the Press Briefing)
