Workshop on strengthening the implementation of the Equal Remuneration Act (ERA) through enhanced application of the principles of C.100 and improved data collection - India

The main objective of this tripartite workshop was to identify action points to be taken by the labour institutions and other relevant stakeholders towards strengthening the effectiveness of the Equal Remuneration Act, in line with the principles of Convention No.100. This two-day workshop brought together 43 participants and contributed to improve their understanding of the basic principle of equal remuneration for work of equal value contained in Convention 100 and international experience in applying this principle through laws, policies, proactive measures, guidelines, tripartite social dialogue and gender-neutral job evaluation, among others. At the end of the workshop, participants proposed recommendations on the way forward regarding the effective implementation of ILO C.100 in three main areas: 1) Research and data collection, 2) Proactive measures, and 3) Legislation. Recommendations emanating from this workshop will be officially presented by the ILO to the inter-ministerial gender task force.
