  2. Work in Fishing Convention, 2007 (No.188): Netting Gains for Sri Lanka

    This study was commissioned to identify how the ratification of C 188 convention by the Government of Sri Lanka would impact on different stakeholders. Working in the agriculture and fisheries sector, the ILO's LEED+ project has a strong focus on creating inclusive, decent work opportunities. It is expected that the C 188 Convention, if ratified by the Government of Sri Lanka, will not only promote decent work conditions in the fisheries sector and create additional employment, but also generate significant economic returns to the country.

  4. A Comprehensive analysis of remittances: Sri Lanka

    The publication is an outcome of a study undertaken under the Labour Migration Policy Project (Phase III) funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). It is envisaged that the findings contribute to an evidence base on remittances to Sri Lanka useful for the foreign employment and financial sectors. Specifically to contribute to reducing cost of remittances in line with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 10.c) to reduce remittance cost to 3 percent of remittance amount.

  5. Tackling the COVID-19 youth employment crisis in Asia and the Pacific

    Young people’s employment prospects in Asia and the Pacific are severely challenged as a result of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Youth (15–24 years) will be hit harder than adults (25 and older) in the immediate crisis and also risk bearing higher longer-term economic and social costs, says a joint ILO-ADB report.

  6. Assessment of the Key Bottlenecks for Private Sector Investments in the Northern Province

    This publication ‘Assessment of the Key Bottlenecks for Private Sector Investments in the Northern Province’ is the result of the assessment carried out under the Local Empowerment through Economic Development and Reconciliation" - LEED+ project of the globally flagged Jobs for Peace and Resilience (JPR) programme. The study was commissioned by the ILO in order to identify key barriers for private sector investments to the Northern Province, with the plan of advocating for addressing these barriers for bringing in more investments to the area and generate decent jobs in both formal and informal sectors.

  8. Guidance note on employment intensive tank rehabilitation

    This publication is an important result of the ILO's Climate Resilience project implemented in the Northern Province, with the view of building drought resilience of small holder agriculture communities. The guidance note explains the technical process of selecting minor irrigation systems for rehabilitation, how to adopt employment intensive mechanisms in tank rehabilitation and other key features pertaining.

    This publication ‘Mainstreaming Disaster Resilience: Identifying Opportunities in National Policies and Legal Framework in relation to Rural Development’ is an important result of the collaboration between the ILO and the Government of Sri Lanka. The desk review of policies combined with a literature review, and solicitation of recommendations from key stakeholders and experts has resulted in the articulation of a range of options for future policy development in watershed and water resource management in land-use and development planning.
