The Project aims to contribute to the prevention of HIV/AIDS in the world of work, the enhancement of workplace protection and the reduction of its adverse consequences on social, labour, and economic development.

The Project promotes decent work for young women and men through enhancement of employment possibilities. The project works to alleviate poverty, unemployment and underemployment among rural young people by helping them find work, vocational and entrepreneurship training. It focuses on improving labour market services especially for youth in plantations and adjacent areas.
Promotion of Decent Work for Young Women and Men Through Enhancement of Employment Possibilities in Sri Lanka
1 January 2007 - 31 December 2010
The project works to alleviate poverty, unemployment and underemployment among rural young people in Sri Lanka by helping them find work, vocational and entrepreneurship training. It also focuses on improving employment and recruitment services and is developing an English teaching curriculum for schools on plantations.
1 January 2007 - 31 December 2009
The project provides a sustainable community based participatory planning mechanism to prioritise reconstruction and maintenance of rural roads to improve access to essential basic services and facilitate local economic development. It directly contributes to the policies and strategies of the Government of Sri Lanka to provide accessibility to all population and to have high quality mobility road network for the transportation of passengers and goods.

The project takes initiatives to promote gender mainstreaming for decent work. The project works with the lead Government consituent which is the Ministry of Labour Relations and Manpower, the Employers Federation of Ceylon and Vocational Training Service Providers to strengthen institutional capacity for the same.

The Child Activity Survey for Sri Lanka will be updated since the last exercise conducted in 1999. The Survey is undertaken by the Department of Census and Statistics with technical assistance from ILO (SIMPOC) Geneva. This time, the Eastern Province is also included in the 16,000 sample chosen for the survey.
Micro & Small Enterprise Development Project for Pro-poor Growth in Sri Lanka (Enter-Growth Project)
1 June 2005 - 30 September 2009
The project contributes to the generation of pro-poor economic growth and quality employment for women and men, through an integrated programme for the development of micro and small enterprises that focuses on the North-West and North-Central provinces.
1 June 2006 - 31 December 2008
The project promotes the restoration of livelihoods and revival of local economies, in areas that has been affected by the tsunami through skills training, enterprise development and the installation of appropriate economic support mechanisms at the community level.
