  2. Final National Workshop of the pilot project on flood and drought resilience in selected districts in Sri Lanka

    Workshop for trade unions in the private sector on the application of ILO supervisory body recommendations on the minimum threshold for representativity of trade unions in Sri Lanka in compliance with Convention 098 (Right to Organise and Collective Bargaining).

  2. Grievance Handling Guidelines and Workplace Cooperation Guidelines: Training of Department of Labour (DoL) Trainers

    28 - 29 October 2019

    A training-of-trainers (ToT) workshop for about 20 Sri Lanka DoL officials was held on 28-29 October 2019. This followed an earlier workshop convened by the DoL in partnership with the ILO in July 2019 to develop enterprise-level grievance handling guidelines and workplace cooperation guidelines respectively. The next step following the TOT is to pilot the guidelines in a few enterprises and to refine them further based on the lessons learned.

    The ILO’s tripartite constituents in Sri Lanka have identified the strengthening of social dialogue and workplace cooperation as a critical factor for improved dispute resolution. The Department of Labour has engaged employers and trade unions on labour dispute settlement at enterprise-level in the past. However, this has not been successful due to differing interests of employers and trade unions.

    The ILO Country Office for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, together with the Ministry of Labour and Trade Union Relations, Department of Labour, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Employers’ Federation of Ceylon (EFC) and trade unions will hold an event on Occupational Safety and Health at work on the 27th of June in Colombo.
