Grievance Handling Guidelines and Workplace Cooperation Guidelines: Training of Department of Labour (DoL) Trainers
28 - 29 October 2019
A training-of-trainers (ToT) workshop for about 20 Sri Lanka DoL officials was held on 28-29 October 2019. This followed an earlier workshop convened by the DoL in partnership with the ILO in July 2019 to develop enterprise-level grievance handling guidelines and workplace cooperation guidelines respectively. The next step following the TOT is to pilot the guidelines in a few enterprises and to refine them further based on the lessons learned.

Strengthening bi-partite social dialogue mechanisms for enhanced workplace cooperation

The ILO’s tripartite constituents in Sri Lanka have identified the strengthening of social dialogue and workplace cooperation as a critical factor for improved dispute resolution. The Department of Labour has engaged employers and trade unions on labour dispute settlement at enterprise-level in the past. However, this has not been successful due to differing interests of employers and trade unions.
