Local knowledge sharing on Watershed Management

Dissemination of knowledge products for mainstreaming disaster resilience into national and rural development.

The ILO in Sri Lanka piloted a project on watershed management in the South-Western region of the country, which aims to increase the climate resilience of rural communities.

The project took place in Kalutara and Ratnapura districts, which are increasingly prone to frequent climatic incidents such as floods and landslides, which adversely affect the livelihoods of thousands of vulnerable people.

A knowledge sharing workshop on Watershed Management will be held on 24th January 2020 in Kalutara district, with the attendance of the Kalutara District Secretary/Government Agent, the chief government representative in the district.

The objective of the workshop was to share the learnings from the ILO project with local level stakeholders. This was the first local level dissemination, with the next due to take place in Ratnapura district on 27th January. A national workshop takes place in Colombo on 27th February.
