National Multi-sector Policy Forum on Labour Migration

National Multi-sector Policy Forum on Labour Migration, will be hosted by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Digital Infrastructure and Foreign Employment on the 2nd October 2018 at the Galle Face Hotel.

The NLMP remains one of the few policies that have been implemented continuously in Sri Lanka since 2010 with active engagement of a multitude of stakeholders contributing towards the protection and empowerment of migrant workers prior to departure, while in-service and upon return.

Changing economies coupled with expanding and demanding labour markets, skills needs etc has marginalized migrant workers, especially women. For Sri Lanka, heavily dependent on remittances to fuel its economy, it is important to keep its policies and programmes current and relevant for the betterment of migrant workers and their family members and the economy as a whole.

It is in this context that a National Multi-sector Policy Forum on Labour Migration, will be hosted by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Digital Infrastructure and Foreign Employment on the 2nd October 2018 at the Galle Face Hotel. The event held in collaboration with ILO, seeks to obtain inputs from all stakeholders in the government, private sector, workers and employers organizations and civil society to update the National Labour Migration Policy, NLMP (2008) 10 years after its first approval by Cabinet.
